Styling

Correctly handling your hair with gentle styling tools is best for the health of your hair and scalp

Cutting hair makes it grow faster

Your hair is not like a lawn where cutting can stimulate growth. However, because hair is not naturally all the same length, and the ends have less volume than the roots, when it is cut short your overall style can appear to be thicker and stronger.

You can repair split ends

The only way to cure split ends is to cut them off. So-called ‘split end-healers’ may temporarily glue the ends together, but only until the hair is washed or combed. Try not to leave split ends untended to for too long as they can split further up the hair shaft, causing more damage.

Brushing hair 100 strokes a day is good

No – it’s bad for it. Vigorous brushing can pull your hair out, break it off and can also scratch the scalp. Think of what would happen if you repeatedly brushed a wool sweater; it would get worn-out and frayed. The same applies to your strands! A brush should be used as a styling aid only, not as exercise for the hair.

Colouring your hair increases hair loss

There is no scientific evidence to support that belief that colouring makes the hair fall out more. If anything, it can add texture and body.
